The increased difficulties faced by young people in rural communities in making the transition to the labour market and building their future are recognised. The lack of opportunities in their environment - transversal and complementary to formal education - leads to a lack of motivation among young people to stay in their environment and contribute to its development and dynamisation. This scenario leads to a series of consequences and challenges that urgently need to be overcome, such as the depopulation of inland regions (due to the loss of young people who, without opportunities, seek other places to grow); population ageing (due to the flight of young people from inland regions and the lack of new arrivals that could compensate for their departure) and the consequent fall in the labour force, the precariousness or even non-existence of digital infrastructures, the difficulty in accessing primary services. In addition to putting the brakes on young people and the development of their potential and talent, all these factors make it impossible for these territories to develop economically, weakening the entrepreneurial fabric, the supply of jobs and the possibility for young people to participate proactively in society. As the challenges for young people have worsened with Covid-19, to the extent that social and economic inequalities have intensified the existing fragilities, rural youth have been faced with the need to move to the city in search of better living conditions, leaving behind the immeasurable cultural wealth of their land.
