Being young means experiencing an intense period of physical and psychological transformation, in which young people are building the foundations for an independent life and defining their future plans. For this reason, youth is a turbulent phase that requires young people to be highly adaptable and prepared for the daily challenges that come their way. In addition to the natural challenges of this phase, many young people are victims of social exclusion and therefore have limited prospects for their future. According to Eurostat (2020), 25.1% of young Europeans and 24.4% of young Portuguese are at risk of poverty and social exclusion. Aware of the daily challenges faced by the youth sector, CVP Sanguedo created the youth department (Corpo Local da Juventude de Sanguedo) and outlined structured short- and medium-term objectives aimed at promoting the development of the youth sector. Given that young people are the group that represents Europe's hope and sustainability, and given that they will be the future leaders, intercultural ambassadors and agents of change, it became crucial to invest in their present and future. This vision is clearly in line with the Erasmus+ Programme, which highlights the suitability of this Accreditation for the programme's short- and medium-term objectives and consequent application to the 2023 Funding Request. Social problem: The social exclusion of young people, stemming from the lack of development of lifelong learning skills and low youth participation rates. Project objectives: Objective 1: Developing competences. We wanted to create learning opportunities based on non-formal education that would promote the development of competences for lifelong learning, particularly in youth workers and young people. Objective 2: To recognise and enhance the role of young people as future leaders, intercultural ambassadors and agents of change in society, both for themselves and for society in general. Objective 3: To promote international cooperation in the youth sector, strengthening the creation of new projects that respond to global social problems and the creation of sustainable partnerships between different European organisations.
