Our objectives as Teatro Metaphora are to develop social and personal competencies of children, youth, and adults by organizing local and international projects such as exchanges, trainings, conferences, seminars, lectures, and other educational, cultural and environmental activities, based on non-formal education principles. We aim to develop artistic, cultural, educational and environmental programs in order to enhance the quality of life with meaning, not only entertainment. The organization’s activities are an essential part of the overall strategy for Madeira to be a creative community, and our organization is a meeting point for innovation and change, aimed at strengthening the excellence of our island. In the second year of our accreditation, we organized 1 Training Course (PDA) and one 1 Youth Exchange in line with the strategy we have currently going on. The main reason behind the training course was based on a global problem which is affecting the life in Madeira Island and is very relevant in the context of youth work at international level: tourism and travelling and how it can be done in sustainable and ethical way. Tourism is responsible for roughly 8% of the world’s carbon emissions. From plane flights and boat rides to souvenirs and lodging, various activities contribute to tourism’s carbon footprint. The term sustainable travel refers to the adoption of sustainable practices to minimize the negative impacts and maximize the positive effects of tourism and travelling in general (for other purposes as well). All these issues are crucial and particularly important for youth organizations operating currently in Europe and within the Erasmus+ Program, which is supporting learning mobility for youth and youth workers across the continent and also strives to make them more sustainable. The training course aimed to raise the capacity of youth organizations to contribute to a more sustainable society through street campaigning methodology. More specific Objectives of the training course where: - To increase the level of innovation and creativity in the youth work field by using street campaigning methods; - To stimulate long-term involvement of youth workers and youth organizations in sustainable projects which address sustainability; - To develop practical competencies in using street campaigning for the youth workers involved; - To develop pro-active attitudes towards sustainability among the beneficiaries' youth workers; - To increase the knowledge level of young people and youth workers in topics like global interdependencies, sustainable development, sustainable tourism, sustainable lifestyle, etc. - To motivate all the beneficiaries (direct and indirect) to act as responsible active global citizens in their day-to-day life; With the Youth Exchange, we wanted to create awareness on the importance of being an active citizen in this European context, fostering EU identity with more tolerant and inclusive youth. In the past years, the number of far-right political parties are rising and with anti-immigrant agendas as well as the number of young voters on these more extreme points of view. Being 2024 the year of European Elections, we wanted to provide a space for young people to voice out what they really think and how they want Europe to be in the future as well as the steps to achieve it. The objectives of the youth exchange were: - To encourage involvement of young people in daily democratic life - To develop dialogue and stimulate democracy through creative expression - To give input on and to develop youth creative projects - To experience to work within a European identity - To develop personal skills and knowledge of the youngsters - To empower and guide youth leaders through workshop design
