Objectives

The Next Step project aimed to respond to the problem of lack of youth participation in the design and implementation of policies to combat climate change. The climate crisis is one of today's most pressing challenges, and the involvement of young people in the search for and implementation of solutions is essential. This is not yet a reality, with their role being mostly advisory and unrepresentative of the diversity of contexts and needs of this age group. In several European countries, despite the great adherence to the Student Climate Strike, and the fact that several politicians are eagerly consulting young people, this does not occur in a structured way (European Youth and Climate Change A Community Baseline, 2021). When it comes to young people in vulnerable situations, these opportunities are almost non-existent. There are a number of obstacles to the full participation of young people in decision-making processes associated with the climate crisis. There is a multiplicity of needs around this social problem. For this project we focus on a narrow but important set of needs that have the power to bring a positive effect to the communities where it is implemented, and to the youth sector as a whole. General Objective: To contribute to the strengthening of the youth sector in promoting inclusive youth participation mechanisms within the framework of responses to the ecological and environmental crisis we are experiencing. Specific Objectives: - To train the participating youth workers in key competences of Lifelong Learning for their professional development and to intervene with young people; - To promote knowledge among participating youth workers on the main local, regional, national and European strategies and action plans on environmental sustainability; - Train youth workers to create and maintain inclusive participation mechanisms that are sensitive to the needs of young people; - Prepare and motivate youth workers for an active role in building bridges between young people and decision-makers in the context of responses to the climate crisis. Objectives of youth worker mobility: In line with the general and specific objectives of the program, the mobility projects of youth workers aim to create opportunities for professional development, the promotion of the quality of work with young people at local, regional, national, European and international level, in mobility activities for non-formal learning purposes. In this project we wanted to work with the participants on a set of skills that allowed them to be prepared to exercise their professions in a more appropriate way to the needs of their target audiences, to respond to the challenges linked to the climate crisis, to contribute to the improvement of their organizations of origin and the scope that works with young people. Through intercultural dialogue and transnational collaborative work, we contribute to the creation of a community of youth workers who support the quality of projects and activities targeting young people in the EU
