Objectives

The project “Entre Jovens – Participation in Local Communities” is a regional youth participation initiative involving the municipalities of Lousã, Góis, Miranda do Corvo, and Vila Nova de Poiares, located in Coimbra region. Its aim was to create opportunities for young people to engage in participation and reflection on their territories through dialogue with local policymakers, supported by a capacity-building process focused on different forms of active participation in civil society and democratic life. The project also sought to promote ownership of shared values and fundamental European rights, contributing to the EU Youth Dialogue. The project was designed with a regional scope, as the four participating municipalities (Góis, Lousã, Miranda do Corvo, and Vila Nova de Poiares) share common characteristics in terms of their youth communities and, more importantly, face similar challenges in fostering youth engagement at local, regional, and even international levels. Based on the assessment developed during the application phase, we believed this project would contribute significantly to regional youth work, as the identified needs are common to all four territories. Moreover, we envisioned this project as a motivating and enriching process for young people, offering them the opportunity to reflect on their territories through mutual exchange and cooperation. The goal was to inspire them to create synergies for dialogue with policymakers, as well as for the implementation of this project and potentially other future projects and initiatives. Thus, the project’s main objectives were: To promote the involvement of young people in youth participation processes, aiming to strengthen their democratic literacy and informed participation within their communities; To bring policymakers and local youth closer together, encouraging reflection on the relevance of the European Youth Goals at both local and regional levels.
