Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (ULBS) approached the Erasmus+ KA131-HED 2023 project with a clear and ambitious vision: to consolidate its position as a modern European higher education institution—open, internationally connected, and deeply anchored in the values of inclusive and sustainable education. The project functioned as a strategic instrument for advancing the university’s institutional objectives, particularly in the areas of internationalization and the development of human, academic, and administrative resources. The central aim of the project was to facilitate and support academic mobility opportunities for both students and staff, contributing not only to their professional training but also to their personal and intercultural development. In a context marked by dynamism and significant challenges, ULBS sought to promote more than academic excellence: it committed itself to upholding European values such as solidarity, diversity, and active citizenship. These principles were embedded across all project activities, ensuring that outcomes went beyond statistics to create lasting experiences. The project pursued several key objectives: ensuring equitable access to mobility, with attention to students facing fewer opportunities; strengthening cooperation through new and diverse Erasmus+ partnerships; enhancing digital, linguistic, and intercultural competences; and supporting the green and digital transition through targeted initiatives. By integrating these priorities, ULBS aligned itself with the European agenda for inclusive and innovative higher education. A particularly distinctive feature was the intensive blended program “Life & Vision – Design Your Life.” This initiative brought together students from six countries and engaged them in topics such as personal development, self-awareness, and career planning. It illustrated ULBS’s commitment to innovative pedagogies and to creating international learning environments that transcend traditional frameworks. By fostering reflection, creativity, and cross-cultural exchange, the program showcased how modern educational practices are integrated into ULBS’s internationalization strategy. The project also expanded ULBS’s global network. Beyond mobilities within Erasmus+ countries, the university developed partnerships and sent participants to destinations including Japan, Chile, Peru, Uzbekistan, Moldova, the USA, and the UK. These exchanges diversified experiences for both students and staff while strengthening ULBS’s capacity to build sustainable academic collaborations worldwide. In parallel, the university advanced digitalization. About 82% of learning agreements were signed electronically, and administrative workflows moved online. This reduced bureaucracy, improved efficiency, and offered smoother procedures. The ecological dimension was equally relevant: ULBS supported 18 “green” mobilities and integrated sustainability themes into its educational activities, reflecting its commitment to the European Green Deal and to embedding sustainability in its mission.Inclusion remained central. Eleven students with fewer opportunities received extra financial support and personalized counseling, ensuring their participation under fair conditions. This underlined ULBS’s determination to make internationalization a shared opportunity, not a privilege. The university also advanced support services for vulnerable groups, reinforcing its student-centered identity. In total, 453 mobilities were implemented, confirming ULBS’s capacity to manage a complex program and to transform mobility into a strategic tool for institutional, professional, and personal growth. These mobilities provided measurable results—enhanced competences, networks, and employability—as well as intangible gains such as intercultural awareness, civic engagement, and belonging to the European academic community. Ultimately, Erasmus+ KA131-HED 2023 delivered concrete outcomes while laying the foundations for sustainable internationalization. It strengthened ULBS’s reputation as a trustworthy partner in Europe and globally. By combining excellence with inclusivity, innovation, digital transformation, and environmental responsibility, the university has positioned itself as a dynamic and reliable member of the international higher education community, ready to face present challenges and shape future opportunities.
