Objectives

By implementing the KA131 2023 project, the University of Bucharest aimed to consolidate its position in the European educational landscape and to increase its international visibility, as part of an integrated internationalisation strategy. This endeavour targeted both the strengthening of institutional capacity and the professional and personal development of participants, through the use of Erasmus+ mobilities as the main instrument for academic innovation, cooperation and integration into the European Higher Education Area. The general objective of the project was to enhance the quality of the educational and research process at the University of Bucharest by expanding and diversifying mobilities for students and staff, in line with European priorities and the institutional strategic plan. Through active participation in the Erasmus+ Programme, the University of Bucharest seeks to strengthen its academic reputation, to promote its human resources and scientific results, and to become a reliable partner for prestigious European and international universities. The specific objectives included: 1. increasing institutional visibility through active participation in Erasmus+ and by promoting academic and research results at European level; 2. integration into the European Higher Education Area through mobilities focused on students’ needs and on the professional development of academic and administrative staff, with an emphasis on the recognition of learning outcomes, on improving competences and on increasing students’ employability; 3. active involvement in European and national projects by encouraging the exchange of students and staff and collaboration with partner universities, thus facilitating the development of new study programmes, including joint and double degree programmes; 4. developing strategic partnerships with prestigious European institutions, focused on academic innovation, interdisciplinarity and the exchange of good practices, with mobilities acting as bridges for knowledge transfer, curriculum adaptation and the modernisation of the educational offer; 5. promoting European values and Erasmus+ priorities such as inclusion, sustainability and digitalisation, by supporting access to opportunities for students and staff coming from disadvantaged backgrounds or geographically isolated areas, by encouraging the use of digital tools for learning and cooperation and by promoting sustainable travel practices; 6. developing participants’ competences – academic, professional, linguistic and intercultural – as a key element for building successful careers in a globalised context, with students benefiting from learning and research opportunities in an international environment and staff gaining new perspectives for improving the educational process. A differentiating element of the University of Bucharest project is related to its active participation in the European university alliance CIVIS and the involvement of associated partners from Africa, which provided the context for the development of complex mobilities integrated into wide international networks and connected with priority research and education topics at global level. The project also aimed at supporting UB’s areas of excellence, such as geosciences, social sciences and humanities, linguistics, data science and fields in which the university has internationally recognised expertise. Erasmus+ mobilities were not only individual opportunities, but also strategic instruments for strengthening UB’s role in international academic consortia, for attracting foreign students and researchers and for increasing the social and cultural impact of the university at European level. Through these actions, the project contributed not only to achieving the objectives of internationalisation, but also to affirming the University of Bucharest as a relevant actor in shaping the future of education and research in Europe.
