Objectives

By implementing this project, we aimed to engage young people in their communities and increase their involvement in democracy and decision-making processes. We sought to address environmental challenges and empower youth to propose green and sustainable policies. The main objectives of the project were: Teaching young people how to actively participate in democratic life – Participants learned about the procedures and channels available for youth participation, enabling them to influence decisions that impact their future. Enhancing self-expression and communication skills – The project equipped young people with the ability to identify, articulate, and present their opinions to decision-makers effectively. Empowering youth to shape their future – Participants were encouraged to take an active role in their communities by addressing local issues, proposing solutions, and becoming agents of change. Facilitating open dialogue between young people and decision-makers – Through structured meetings and events, the project promoted collaboration between youth and policymakers, ensuring that young voices are heard in decision-making processes. Ultimately, the project sought to create a sustainable impact by establishing long-term pathways for youth involvement in democratic and ecological initiatives within their communities. Participants were introduced to European democratic values, decision-making structures, and youth advocacy tools to engage meaningfully in civic life. Through simulations, debates, and participatory exercises, young people gained hands-on experience in policy dialogue and lobbying at the local level. During the mobilities and while having the local events the project employed experiential learning approaches, including role-plays and simulations (decision-making scenarios), workshops and world café discussions (structured dialogues with policymakers), project-based learning (developing local sustainability initiatives). The project strengthened cross-border cooperation between Romanian and French youth, fostering intercultural dialogue and knowledge exchange on sustainability and democratic participation. Through Erasmus+ dissemination strategies, the project ensured that best practices, methodologies, and policy proposals were shared widely among youth organizations, NGOs, and local institutions. As a conclusion we think that by integrating Erasmus+ priorities, SDGs, non-formal education tools and youth-led initiatives, "Our Community, Our Earth" successfully empowered young people to become active agents of change in both democratic participation and environmental sustainability. The project demonstrated how youth participation in decision-making can lead to more inclusive, sustainable, and impactful policies within local communities and at the European level.
