Our goal was to promote active citizenship of young people, raise awareness of political and public life in relation to decision-makers, to involve young people and empower them to act for a more connected world, and the impact achieved was focused on participants and local communities with the desired impact on European national ones. We formulated the following objective of the GOYNG- Governance of the New Generation project, which forms lines of action for the project activities: 1) To develop and write a digital toolkit about the level of impact and methods that young people have on decision-makers and the toolkit to be a set of practices for civic engagement in the public sphere. 2) Understanding the European Union from an institutional point of view: top institutions and regulations. Simulating a session of the European Parliament by involving young people from the 3 communities. 3) Encouraging the direct involvement of 50 young people over a period of 14 months, with a focus on the following mechanisms for developing personal capacities: to understand and be able to become civically involved based on knowledge of the regulations, norms and processes that take place: negotiations, public speaking. The reasons why we arrived at these objectives came from the gaps and needs that we identified at the beginning of the project: 1. Lack of a guide regarding the involvement of young people in public life/local politics. 2. The high percentage of young people who are not active in terms of the degree of local civic involvement, as well as their involvement in this process, both at the level of volunteers, participants in citizen initiative groups or activists, and professionally. 3. Lack of education regarding the potential that the youth sector has in the public space regarding the appreciation of young people who want to get more involved in the public space, given that formal education is considered necessary along with many years of experience, and the youth sector is thus, implicitly, discouraged. 5. Lack of mentoring and training in guiding young people regarding local/national/European public policies.
