Background

This project was launched in response to a growing need for youth education on climate change and disaster resilience. The COVID-19 pandemic, war, and increasing natural hazards have shown how vulnerable societies are to global disruptions. National and EU studies highlight that young people in Romania, Turkey, and Portugal feel disempowered and underprepared to face such challenges. Surveys revealed over 70% of youth in partner countries do not believe they can act meaningfully against climate change. Furthermore, youth workers lack specific training and tools to address these topics. The project addressed these needs by developing innovative educational methods, practical simulations, and creating local and online resilience centers. It aimed to empower disadvantaged youth with intervention skills, strengthen their civic responsibility, and improve the quality of youth work, aligned with national climate strategies and EU sustainability goals. The project addressed previously identified needs by supporting young people from Romania, Turkey, and Portugal who had shown low awareness of climate change, limited disaster response capacity, and a lack of trained youth workers equipped to deliver resilience and environmental education.
