Our first objective in the project was understanding what are the main causes of low engagement rates in Bucharest and Malaga among the young population, as we believe that only by properly understanding what are the factors that discourage youth from taking an active stand in the society can we really start to change this. After conducting 2 sociological studies in the 2 target cities, we aspired to properly understand what are the needs of young people when it comes to engaging in their communities and therefore we wanted to collaborate in order to develop a set of instruments that we could apply on the young population to increase their engagement in the community. With the instruments developed, our goal was not only to apply them and hold activities through our organisations, but also to disseminate the instruments to other local NGO's that could adapt and use our instruments in order to engage their own target groups in their activities and fields. Not lastly, we wanted to strengthen the collaboration between The Romanian Academic Society and EuroMuevete in order to lay the foundation for future projects in which we will partner.
The Romanian Academic Society and EuroMuevete have decided to apply for this project as a follow-up and, at the same time, enabling project for their other projects. In our activity we noticed that young people in Bucharest and Malaga have a decreased engagement rate in their communities, fact observed through multiple projects and studies conducted by the 2 NGO's. We decided to dedicate a project to the objective of increasing the engagement rate of young people in their communities through activities dedicated to helping young people understand that their engagement is not only beneficial for them and the society, but also a very efficient way of expressing the needs they have. Therefore, we attempted to better understand the reasons that make young people not engage in Bucharest and Malaga, as well as develop instruments to address these same causes and encourage them to participate in different civic engagement activities.
