Objectives

The project aimed to increase parental involvement in bullying-prevention efforts for neurodivergent children by strengthening the partnership between parents and school staff. It sought to train parents so they could actively support and co-lead educational and anti-bullying activities in their child’s classroom, becoming competent actors in creating inclusive school environments. Another key objective was to develop a comprehensive set of educational support materials—multimedia open educational resources and printable guides for their use—designed to promote empathy, respect, and positive behaviour among students. Through pilot activities in inclusive schools, the project aimed to empower parents to better understand bullying mechanism, address incidents effectively, and reduce risks for neurodivergent learners. Ultimately, the project intended to foster sustained cooperation between families and schools, increase awareness of neurodiversity, and promote long-term inclusion within the educational community.

Background

The project was developed in response to clearly identified adult-learning needs among parents, who are key actors in preventing bullying and fostering inclusion in mainstream schools. The needs assessment across Romania, Greece, and Italy showed that many parents—both of neurodivergent and neurotypical children—lacked the knowledge, skills, and confidence to understand neurodiversity, recognise bullying, and collaborate effectively with teachers. Parents expressed a strong need for structured adult-education opportunities and practical guidance that would strengthen their role in their children’s education. Schools likewise reported limited mechanisms for meaningful parent–school cooperation. By addressing these gaps through training and open educational resources, the project aimed to equip parents with the tools needed to better support their children and actively contribute to creating safer, more inclusive school environments for all learners.
