Objectives

Through the implementation of the project, we aimed to raise students’ awareness of the impact of their lifestyle and consumption habits on the environment. The main objectives were: 1.Understanding the relationship between consumption, limited resources, and sustainability, so that students adopt responsible behaviors such as reducing unnecessary purchases, choosing healthy foods, and monitoring water and energy consumption. 2.Improving the digital skills of students and teachers, through the safe use of virtual tools and the creation of relevant digital content, along with developing a balanced attitude towards media consumption and mobile phone use. 3.Developing key competencies, such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, civic engagement, and organizational skills, to support students’ progress in both curricular and extracurricular activities. The project LESS IS MORE aims to form a generation of young people who can manage their consumption habits responsibly in a world driven by abundance, instant gratification, and constant digital stimulation by cultivating awareness, self-control, and sustainable choices.

Background

We applied for this project because all partner schools identified the same urgent needs: the lack of environmental education and the absence of responsible consumer attitudes in students, especially in the traditional systems of Romania, Greece and Poland. Most students come from families with high economic standards, and surveys show strong tendencies toward excessive consumption, waste and overuse of virtual media. This makes the development of a culture of responsible and balanced consumption essential. At the same time, the coordinating and Greek schools face limited digital competence and ICT programs, while all partners struggle with students’ uncontrolled use of online content. The project therefore addresses the need for digital literacy, effective use of virtual tools and reduction of printed materials, contributing to sustainability. Through European cooperation, we aim to build transversal skills and deepen students’ understanding of the environmental impact of overconsumption—of food, fashion, resources and virtual media—as well as promote awareness of local solutions that help reduce these negative effects.
