Objectives

The general goal of the organised trips of 2 groups of participants was to acquire knowledge and life skills that young people can use in the future (through travel planning, thematic tours, provided digital monitoring and reporting tools, observation of ecological standards of travel and everyday life in urban areas, designed forms of dissemination). The gender dimension of the goal is the independent travel of 2 groups of girls (and 1 young man). Special goals are: encouraging connection with young people in Europe, creating personal contacts, and increasing the feeling of belonging to the EU through intercultural dialogue. The trip fulfilled the young people's need to be independent, step out of their comfort zone with support, check and assess their capacities safely, and achieve an "adventure" with maximum planning. At the same time, this project was only possible with the financial support of the EU, because all the girls (and 1 boy) belong to inclusive social groups from different categories. By implementing this project, they clearly demonstrated that girls can change their lives, and that young people can be successful in the practical realisation of their needs. 2 groups of young people, 7 participants (6 girls and 1 boy) stayed in 8 countries during the planned trip, visited 16 cities, passed through 13 countries, changed 50 trains and travelled 7552 kilometres. They made two trips with two research tasks. The goal of the group that researched street art was to introduce and present the forms of street art, different possibilities of revitalising city spaces, creative use of free time, and familiarisation with the visuals of urban culture. The second group (high school students from Vršac) dealt with the impact of globalisation on crafts and traditional production in Europe. The goal of the trip is to visit more minor, traditional productions and research (interview, video and audio recordings) how crafts have adapted to the challenges of globalisation and market standardisation, what are the creative ways of fighting big corporations, how they have built supportive relationships with local communities. In accordance with the key areas of the European Union Youth Strategy for the period 2019-2027 and the intended goals, the project provided young people with the opportunity for "participatory learning" through the decentralisation of activities (Inclusion). Both groups, in accordance with their needs and plans, participated in writing the application, preparing activities, planning all aspects of the trip, conducting dissemination activities, and evaluating and reporting. In the area of "Connection", we connected on 2 levels: locally, as girls and young men from Zaječar, Kladovo (Podvrška), Vršac, Banatski Karlovac, Margita, researching the program itself, goals, themes of the trip, various forms of preparation. The participants also connected individually - during the period of preparing and writing the application, preparing the trip and the trip itself, they exchanged a lot of personal information. Through this way of working, we encouraged solidarity and the exchange of good practices because experiences were shared not only within the group but also outside it. For example, all collected material about the Discover EU program was distributed to all interested young people. In the field of "Empowerment", with the help of mentors from the Children's Center organisation, the participants were encouraged to complete their high school education with a project that has not been implemented by any group of girls in the area so far. The idea of "taking life into your own hands" was first explored in a safe online environment and presented to parents, professors, and peers. Involvement in writing the application, independent research of travel topics, complete independence in choosing destinations, accommodation options, local transportation, and finances contributed to the growth of self-confidence. Participation in the Discover EU program in a very concrete way contributed to informal learning, the observation of European values, the deconstruction of stereotypes and prejudices, and improved personal competencies. It encouraged intercultural dialogue both with young people in Europe during the trip and with peers after returning. The realisation of the project made it possible to get acquainted with socially important topics (art, local and traditional production, different urban solutions of cities, getting to know the topics of "sustainability"), personal development, acquisition of transferable competencies that will help the future professional development of young people and thereby increase their competitiveness on the labour market, but also a better insight into the possibilities of career development.
