Objectives

The University of Gothenburg (GU) aims to provide internationalisation opportunities for all students and staff. We also recognize that on-site international experience – long or short – can have profound, long-lasting effects such as contributing to development not only of academic perspectives, but also of hard and soft skills, leading to greater engagement in international issues, and more. Encouraging staff mobility contributes to internationalisation at home both for the sending and receiving parties. For the receiving side, local staff and/or students benefit from learning about how others work, their perspectives, etc. For the sending side, the staff person brings back and shares their experience -be it in the short or long term, thus contributing to internationalisation of the sending unit. The Erasmus+ mobility program and funding for HEIs are key to these efforts. We promote engagement in meaningful, sustainable, responsible internationalisation in all regions of Europe and globally – including internationalisation at home and short-term blended mobility options. The variety means students and staff can participate as best suits them, leading to broader inclusion. Many GU programs include study and/or placement abroad windows for their students. Department-level Erasmus agreements ensure suitable exchange partnerships. International work experience improves employability, so Erasmus traineeship funding is key. GU offers incoming exchange students a broad range of courses. Strong study and traineeship cooperations improve our international profile and make us more visible for students, staff, and strategic cooperations. We welcome students and staff from Ukraine as part of the EU's financial support for incoming Erasmus+ education opportunities during the ongoing invasion. GU is in the EUTOPIA European University Alliance. The alliance encourages synergies between EUTOPIA and Erasmus KA131 funding. GU also promotes staff mobility, with an ongoing focus on PhD-student mobility. GU’s 2021-2024 internationalization policy is available at https://t.ly/IejJl (in Swedish, applicable at the start of the contract period).
