The objectives of this project were two-fold: - Create an online micro-course covering topics such as responsible media production, disinformation and fact-checking that can be used by student and community radio members that are new to radio broadcasting. There was also an aim of making the course available to anyone interested in learning or consolidating radio broadcasting and journalistic skills. - Strengthen student and community radio broadcasting in the Nordic countries by providing an educational program. Meanwhile, by gathering our target group for a dissemination event we intended to create an arena where student and community radio broadcasters would meet, network, exchange knowledge, best practices and establish long-standing future collaboration.
Introducing newcomers, and new radio enthusiasts, to radio broadcasting requires a lot of time, effort and resources from both the educators and the learners. This is a luxury that many Nordic student and community radios do not have. Therefore, we applied for this project in order to create an online micro-course covering topics such as responsible media production, disinformation and fact-checking. The educational program can be used by student and community radios to teach their new members and will eventually improve the quality of student and community broadcasting in the Nordic countries. Meanwhile, it will be open to young adults and anyone who has an interest in media or wants to learn and consolidate journalistic skills. Ensuring the quality and accuracy of information is a common challenge in radio broadcasting and journalism. In recent years, it has become easier to manipulate facts and spread disinformation. Through the project, we addressed the need of creating more open and easily available training material and providing young adults with tools on how to fact-check information and fight disinformation.
