By implementing the ELITE – EcoLogically Informed Teens of Europe! project, we aimed to: 1. Increase environmental awareness among European youth We wanted students to better understand key ecological issues such as climate change, sustainability, biodiversity, and their role in creating a greener future. 2. Strengthen cross-cultural cooperation and active European citizenship Through collaboration between partner schools, we aimed to foster a sense of shared responsibility and unity across borders, empowering students to work together for common environmental goals. 3. Enrich teaching practices with innovative, interdisciplinary materials We intended to support teachers in integrating environmental themes across subjects by co-developing and testing engaging, hands-on lesson plans and activities. 4. Empower students as changemakers By involving them directly in research, campaigns, and project-based learning, we wanted to help students develop leadership skills, critical thinking, and a belief that their actions matter. 5. Create sustainable and shareable outputs We aimed to produce high-quality, digital tools such as e-magasin,greenhabits guide,GreenTracker, resources that could continue to be used by educators and students
We applied for the ELITE (EcoLogically Informed Teens of Europe!) project because we recognized an urgent need to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to take meaningful action for the environment. In the face of accelerating climate change, biodiversity loss, and unsustainable consumption, we saw a growing gap in how environmental education is delivered—often too theoretical and disconnected from young people’s everyday realities. Needs we aimed to address Lack of student engagement in environmental issues: While many students are aware of global environmental challenges, they often feel powerless to make a difference. ELITE aims to give them the tools and voice to take action locally and connect with peers across Europe. Limited practical and cross-curricular environmental education in schools: Teachers need more support and innovative resources to integrate sustainability into different subjects. ELITE supports this through co-created lesson plans, workshops, and learning materials. Need for intercultural collaboration and European identity: By forming international eco-teams, students not only learn about ecology but also about different cultures and cooperation across borders.
