Arts and culture play a key role in communicating social and environmental messages about climate change and sustainability. Artists can act as powerful agents of change and role models for more sustainable ways of thinking and living. However, despite the increasing urgency of climate crises, sustainability and green practices remain largely absent from artists’ vocational education and professional pathways. As a result, many artists lack the knowledge, tools and skills required to integrate eco-friendly materials and sustainable methods into their work or to reduce their environmental footprint. The E-ART project was developed to address these educational and professional gaps in the visual arts sector. It responded to the need for structured and practice-oriented training solutions that would equip artists with green skills and sustainability competences. E-ART aimed to support artists in adopting sustainable materials and techniques, while also empowering them to promote environmental awareness through their artworks and engage wider communities. By doing so, the project contributed to strengthening sustainability in the arts sector and supporting the transition towards more environmentally responsible cultural practices.
