With this project, we wanted to enable students to carry out internships abroad and thereby gain valuable personal and professional experience. For staff members who go on mobility abroad, we aimed to provide opportunities for training and/or for getting to know a different working environment. For students, the focus is primarily on gaining work experience in a new setting that differs from their home environment. In companies, they become familiar with work processes in practice—processes for which they have acquired theoretical knowledge at school—and they gain hands-on experience. With their theoretical knowledge and experience from their home institutions, they can also make meaningful contributions to improvements in the company where they complete their internship. At the same time, they improve their foreign language skills and, consequently, their communication abilities; they strengthen their self-confidence, build new contacts, and ultimately gain important references that can help them in their future job search. An equally valuable part of the experience is getting to know different customs and traditions, and perhaps even an entirely different culture. The European dimension is important as well: they develop a sense that we are all members of the EU, all with equal opportunities. Staff members are motivated to go on mobility abroad in order to learn how work processes are organized in other institutions similar to ours. They wish to compare work procedures and gain new ideas, knowledge, and experiences that could be applied in their home organization. They meet new people and establish contacts that may lead to future projects. Staff members also improve their foreign language skills and thereby strengthen their self-confidence, since communicating in a foreign language is often one of the main challenges employees face when deciding whether to take part in mobility abroad. For staff, too, the European experience is significant: it fosters a sense of belonging and offers first-hand insight that everyone enjoys equal opportunities.
