The University of Nova Gorica (UNG) is a research-oriented and internationally recognized institution that strives to act as a driving force of social development both within the region and beyond. With a strong emphasis on innovative teaching methods, UNG fosters pedagogical excellence through modern study programs that ensure high employability for both domestic and international students. The international orientation of the university is reflected in the steadily increasing share of foreign experts, who currently represent approximately 30% of all staff, as well as in the high proportion of international students, which this year amounts to around 60%. Active participation in the Erasmus+ program and the implementation of the Erasmus Policy Statement are key factors in achieving UNG’s strategic goals, particularly in the areas of international cooperation, competence development, and the creation of joint projects and study programs. Staff mobilities enable the maintenance of existing collaborations and the establishment of new professional ties with leading experts worldwide, which directly contributes to the quality of teaching and research. For students, mobilities provide opportunities to complete academic requirements at partner institutions that are part of a network of internationally recognized universities, as well as to undertake internships abroad—significantly enhancing their employability. UNG cooperates with partners that operate in related fields and meet the academic and professional needs of its students and staff. Special attention is given to the quality of teaching and research at partner institutions. Successful partnerships are built on good practices, reciprocity, and shared interests. The University is actively engaged in the development of joint and double-degree programs. At present, UNG participates in the European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations, while also working on the design, development, and accreditation of new programs within the European Cross-Border University consortium (ACROSS). These programs strengthen the international dimension of UNG and provide students and staff with opportunities to enhance both professional and personal competencies. ACROSS brings together nine universities, including UNG, University of Udine (Italy), University of Perpignan (France), Bialystok University of Technology (Poland), Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany), University of Craiova (Romania), University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev” (Bulgaria), University of Girona (Spain), and University of Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina), with Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Ukraine) as an associated partner. One of UNG’s key strategic objectives is to increase staff and student mobilities across all levels by at least one third annually, both incoming and outgoing. To facilitate this, UNG has introduced a continuously open call for applications, which offers greater flexibility in planning mobilities and fosters collaboration with universities and organizations across Europe and globally. This approach has proved highly effective: in addition to long-term mobilities, UNG now also offers short-term opportunities, thereby enabling participation for students who may be constrained by personal, academic, or financial reasons. As a result, the number of realized student mobilities increased more than threefold (45 mobilities) compared to the project year 2022, when only eight were carried out. The number of staff mobilities has also increased, more than doubling (30 staff mobilities) compared to the project year 2022. Through Erasmus+ projects, UNG enables participants to acquire new knowledge abroad, exchange good practices, and develop innovative teaching methods that are implemented in their work. The international ties established and strengthened during mobilities form the basis for long-term academic, research, and professional cooperation. At the same time, they enhance the professional and personal development of participants and their preparedness for integration into a competitive labor market. The mobility project significantly contributes to the fulfillment of UNG’s mission as an internationally recognized and open university, providing students and staff with access to new experiences, professional networks, and knowledge. These elements are crucial for advancing academic excellence, professional growth, and the broader societal impact of the University.
