Our goal was to improve the inclusion of migrant and refugee learners and strengthen teachers’ professional practices. We sought to raise awareness of social, linguistic, cultural, and socio‑economic diversity while ensuring equal opportunities for all learners. The project promoted tolerance, critical and creative thinking, and developed innovative pedagogical approaches to ensure better support for migrant learners in adapting to a new educational and cultural environment. It focused on reducing prejudice, preventing intolerance, and understanding challenges faced by refugee learners, such as language barriers, isolation, marginalisation, and intercultural misunderstandings. Another key objective was developing digital competences among learners and teachers to enhance integration, communication, and collaboration. We also aimed to strengthen cooperation between partner institutions, establish sustainable exchanges of practice, and build a long‑term European network supporting inclusive education.
As an educational institution, we have recognised both the responsibility and the necessity of including migrant, refugee, and other vulnerable groups in the school environment. The war in Ukraine, global economic conditions, and increasing migration have created numerous challenges in education, particularly for learners facing linguistic, cultural, and psychological barriers. The project enables us to develop innovative approaches, strengthen the professional competences of teachers, and exchange good practices with European partners. In doing so, we aim to contribute to the creation of more inclusive, tolerant, and connected school communities. The needs analysis showed that Ukrainian and other migrant learners face language barriers, cultural differences, feelings of exclusion, as well as the consequences of traumatic experiences. We also found that learners from the local environment require additional knowledge and skills to establish empathetic communication and to understand diversity. Teaching staff need additional tools, approaches, and training to work effectively in multicultural classrooms. Through effective inclusion methods, they can support the social integration of migrant learners.
