Objectives

In this program year, we implemented: youth worker mobility in the form of the 3rd conference 2023 "CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES OF WORKING WITH AT-RISK YOUTH" (June 2023) and youth worker mobility from SC Mladinski dom Jarše to Iceland (October-November 2023) and youth worker mobility from the Netherlands to Amsterdam (August 2024), in addition to two youth exchanges (January 2024 and February 2025), which took place in Slovenia. The overarching goal of our project is to enable young people to have new, positive, long-term life experiences both through youth exchanges, as well as to empower employees and other workers in the field of work with (vulnerable) young people to work with this population and thus indirectly improve conditions for young people. Both the conference participants and the study visit partner organisations were selected from youth workers and organisations working with (vulnerable) young people or marginalised groups, with the aim of deepening the links between European youth workers and associated partners from third countries at the 2023 conference. With the youth worker mobility activities, we wanted to strengthen cooperation, exchange and evaluation of experiences and knowledge between organisations in the field of youth work. We were looking for partners who also implement our set goals and present practices of empowering young people while strengthening strengths and reducing deficits, and strengthening the competences of young people with emotional and behavioural problems through the concepts of non-formal learning. In the design, we followed the principles of non-formal learning, where we opened spaces for the exchange of ideas, while strengthening European values in general, and more specifically with an emphasis on the goal of an inclusive society for all, which offers young people (and everyone else) support to achieve their goals regardless of their family and social environment. Both at the conference and during the study visits, we presented Erasmus+ programs and encouraged networking between organizations for further partnerships. We enabled participants to engage in informal learning, exchange good practices, and bring the values of the European Union closer together through country presentations and various innovative and inclusive projects in the field of youth work. By organizing youth exchanges, we enable young people who are included in our programs and are adolescents with social integration problems to gain positive experiences in contact with peers from other countries. Our adolescents have many deficits due to poor and uninspiring, sometimes even destructive and threatening family situations from which they come. Through youth exchange activities and other projects, we offer them the opportunity for informal learning, project work with a less productive culture, more encouragement and monitoring, all with the aim of acquiring new skills, competencies, and strengthening their strengths and personal changes for the better. Their competences and skills are strengthened through the concepts of non-formal learning and experiential learning through practical work, which is the heart of what happens during youth exchanges. At the same time, youth exchanges are also an opportunity for informal and experiential learning for youth workers who accompany young people on their journey.
