Objectives

DPM Trbovlje is an organization with more than 70 years of tradition of working with children, young people and their families at the local level. With the project, we wanted to achieve, first of all, the strengthening of the management of our organization and, consequently, our volunteers, who work with us in all the projects that the organization implements throughout the year. When preparing the application form, we started from the needs of our organization and the partner organizations that we invited to participate. As the topic of this training, we set listening as a basic component of successful communication, which is always a challenge for us, who work with different groups of people all the time. The work of our organization and everyone involved is always connected with people - work with children, their parents, families, people from a socially weaker environment, the local community, many representatives of public institutes, institutions, companies and the municipality. Precisely because of this frequent contact with different people, it often happens that we no longer know how to listen - to listen properly. Is it known in this field that we take people's problems home, we think about them, we don't know how to separate the work of the organization and personal life. Working with diverse profiles of people is often exhausting and it can quickly happen that you forget the essence of your work, the work of the organization. And with this project we wanted to achieve that we find ourselves, that we learn the necessary listening techniques, that we know how to hear ourselves when everything is too much, that we know how to be present when we listen to others, that we really hear the children and that we find a way to hear also ourselves. In an era of tremendous technological progress and frenetic lifestyles, we have almost forgotten this crucial skill. If we do not know how to listen to ourselves, our body, mind, emotions and spirit, we cannot find balance, motivation and live a satisfying life. If we don't know how to listen to others, we can't build real relationships, support and understand each other. If we don't know how to listen to our community and its needs, all the social projects we create are inadequate and only lead to frustrations, not real changes. If we don't know how to listen to nature, we feel isolated, trapped and end up destroying it without noticing the consequences we all already face. And this is exactly what we have faced too many times in our organization. The pandemic has shown us that the challenges in communication apply to all of us, but this especially applies to young people who are less equipped to face the consequences, as well as to youth workers who are trying to find a way to overcome the post-pandemic reality in the field of young people's lives . The first step to preventing loneliness and reconnecting is listening. That's why we at DPM Trbovlje decided to hold this training in Trbovlje and empower ourselves, our volunteers and all partners in this project in this area. Our project pursued 4 main goals: 1. Strengthening the connection with oneself, listening to one's thoughts, body, emotions and spirit; recognize our strengths, dreams and values and learn how we can use them in everyday life and work with young people. 2. Strengthening connection with others, developing skills of mindfulness, empathy and deep listening, recognizing other people's emotions, learning an effective way of using coaching and non-violent communication. 3. Strengthening the connection with our community, identifying its needs and planning social projects based on listening and empathy using the "Design Thinking" methodology. 4. Strengthening the connection with nature, realizing that we are all part of it, knowing the concept of permaculture, which includes all types of listening. The problems and needs we addressed were: - an increasing feeling of loneliness among people, especially during times of social isolation, excessive thinking in their closed world and often a lack of communication - building social projects that are in line with the actual needs of the community - distance from nature, which increases our alienation and anxiety, and on the other hand, leads us to destroy nature - ignorance of setting boundaries, excessive involvement of emotions - lack of a sense of belonging and connection.
