Objectives

The goal of the project was to support girls aged 8–15 in discovering IT/STEAM through innovative pedagogical approaches, and to strengthen the competences of teachers and educators in digital and gender-inclusive teaching. The project aimed to introduce teachers to new teaching methods—hackathons, creative digital activities, and storytelling—and demonstrate how these methods can increase girls’ motivation. Another key objective was to create accessible, user-friendly, and practical materials that teachers can use immediately in their classrooms. An important goal was also to present real female role models from IT/STEAM so that girls gain support, inspiration, and confidence in their abilities. Finally, the project aimed to create a sustainable digital platform that integrates methodologies, videos, activities, and tools for long-term use in schools.

Background

The CodingGirl project was created as a response to the continuously low interest of girls in IT/STEAM and the lack of practical, accessible, and gender-inclusive educational materials for teachers and educators. Schools and teachers needed methodologies and tools that would help them motivate girls in a creative way while simultaneously developing their digital competences already at primary and lower-secondary levels. There was also a strong need to strengthen the role of positive female role models, to present real career opportunities, and to connect schools with modern technologies in a way that would be accessible even for schools located outside major cities. The project additionally addressed the insufficient preparedness of teachers to use digital tools and the need to support their confidence, creativity, and ability to lead inclusive teaching.
