Objectives

The number of cases where young people suffered from eating disorders was increasing rapidly not only worldwide but also in most EU member states. A group of young people, therefore, decided to create a healthy and balanced relationship with food by implementing the FoodieYou(th) project. In connection with socialization and the environmental situation, young people wanted to create a healthy and balanced relationship with food through activities such as food awareness campaigns, prevention campaigns, or sports. The objectives of the project were to promote awareness in the field of healthy nutrition, fight against social, psychological, and health discomfort, and create prevention as a result of the correct perception of food, their body, and eating habits that young people had at that time. The project disseminated information in the form of infographics to prevent eating disorders, taught mindfulness eating without the disturbing influences of modern technology, and created a video to reflect on the importance of fighting against inappropriately targeted social media marketing strategies. The partial objectives achieved by this project were: - education and prevention of eating disorders (PPP); - awareness of nutritionally balanced eating; - support for the culture of eating and catering; - restriction of marketing strategies; - environmental protection, as food did not have to be imported and the carbon footprint was thereby reduced; - promotion of examples of good practice at the socio-cultural level; - strengthening cooperation between different sectors; - reduction of incentives for non-communicable diseases, especially in the area of eating disorders; - improving the psychological and physical quality of life of younger generations; - support for local food producers and farmers; - increasing the rate of professional growth and quality of life. The experience that participants gained created: - an understanding that food can be seen as a way of socializing and healing; - improved critical thinking on social media and recognition of false reality; - knowledge that even though social media are opinion-forming, they can adapt their content; - new attitudes towards food that influenced behavior, helping to prefer the consumption of healthy food produced in an organic, ecological, and sustainable manner; - a need to replace Fast Food meals with healthy and balanced foods. Implementing the project enabled young people to develop and acquire knowledge, supported greater self-esteem and self-knowledge, and increased awareness of the European social dimension. Opportunities were also created for disadvantaged young participants with fewer opportunities. Furthermore, the expected impact contributed to the development of language and digital competencies, verbal and non-verbal communication, the acquisition of non-formal work methods and techniques, the acquisition of skills in managing work groups, and the development of greater awareness of the possibilities that young people have as European citizens.
