This project aims to improve the competencies of youth leaders and youth workers in Mindfulness, Embodiment, and Coaching methods as non-formal education methods to increase mental health and wellbeing, but also social dialogue and a sense of belonging among youth. In the course of globalization and migration, societies become more diverse, which often causes conflict, tension, or even radicalization. At the same time, many young people feel alienated and isolated, lacking a sense of self-worth, belonging, and rootedness. Under these circumstances, it is crucial to foster knowledge, skills, and attitudes among young people on how to connect to themselves, others, and their surroundings in a meaningful way. This need also gets visible in the new 2019 - 2027 EU Youth Strategy, in which the fifth of eleven goals is about the mental health and well-being of youth. Mindfulness and Coaching are two strong pathways toward greater self-awareness, inner peace, and a sense of belonging. Both include a wide variety of methods and tools, which can be applied in youth work and non-formal education. Moreover, these tools can be applied in community-building processes and social dialogue among youth. In order to apply these skills through their non-formal education activities, youth workers need to have knowledge about the respective methodology and theory, a set of experiences in personal development, as well as enhanced group facilitation skills. Within the field of non-formal education in the youth sector, it has become increasingly evident that a variety of support methods and strategies are required to ensure active participation, quality standards, recognition, and even health and safety. The European programs for Youth such as Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps already have a well-established system and understanding of ‘mentoring’, supporting individuals who are realizing Voluntary Service projects. Generally, coaching has been understood as a process in which people and teams are helped to make the best of themselves and facilitate the way of working effectively as part of a team. Coaching is a relatively new element in supporting youth work. These training courses have been developed with the aim of offering practical support for youth leaders and youth workers that are actively supporting different Youth Initiatives in their communities. The Project as a whole aims to empower youth leaders and youth workers' personal development and Leadership capacity by fostering their skills for self-reflection and self-awareness, by using mindfulness and embodiment as pathways. It will equip youth workers and young people with tools to become role models, who communicate their feelings, needs, and visions in a clear and non-violent way and to encourage this skill in individuals and groups. It offers an opportunity for youth workers to learn and practice facilitating community-building processes, again using mindfulness and coaching as tools. Furthermore, it empowers youth leaders to build intercultural and diverse networks and partnerships for acting toward systemic transformation, towards a peaceful, open, and healthy society. What activities do you plan to implement? What is the number and profile of the participants involved? The proposed project includes two Training Courses: The first course encourages youth worker's personal development through an experience of Embodiment, Mindfulness, and coaching methods with a specific focus on Community-building and communication skills. It transfers methodological knowledge, which allows participants to apply these innovative non-formal education tools in an informed and professional way. The second training offers participants the opportunity to directly transfer their new knowledge and personal experience into practice: Participants will plan and facilitate sessions including tools from the field of Mindfulness and Embodiment for community building and the well-being of youth. They will increase their general facilitation skills by receiving input on methodology and personal feedback on their performance. Between the two Training Courses, participants will work in small groups, researching the needs of young people in their communities and preparing their sessions for the second activity. After the second Training Course, participants will be encouraged and supervised.
