By implementing the 2023 Erasmus+ KA131 project, our primary objective was to advance the internationalisation strategy of Istanbul University and its partner institutions, in full alignment with the Erasmus Policy Statement and the broader higher education agenda at European level. The project was designed to offer students and staff meaningful opportunities to engage in high-quality mobility experiences that would foster academic excellence, intercultural understanding, employability and institutional cooperation. For students, the aim was to enable them to study or train abroad with full academic recognition, thereby improving their competences, broadening their cultural horizons, strengthening their language skills and increasing their prospects in both local and international labour markets. For staff, the focus was on supporting professional development through teaching and training mobilities, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and best practices, and encouraging closer cooperation between academic and administrative units across partner universities. In addition to the direct impact on individuals, the project sought to reinforce institutional capacity by embedding mobility within teaching and research strategies, enhancing quality assurance systems, and integrating digital tools such as the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) Dashboard to ensure greater efficiency, transparency and sustainability in mobility management. A key objective was also to advance inclusion and diversity by ensuring equal access to opportunities for participants from different backgrounds, as well as to contribute to the horizontal priorities of the Erasmus+ programme, namely the green and digital transitions. Through awareness-raising, counselling and transparent selection procedures, the project aimed to ensure that participants with fewer opportunities could benefit equally from mobility. At the same time, the project was conceived as a vehicle for promoting European values, strengthening the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and creating synergies with national and EU-funded programmes in research and innovation. At the institutional level, the project aimed to strengthen cooperation with partner universities by expanding the number and diversity of inter-institutional agreements, increasing the range of academic disciplines involved, and creating more balanced mobility flows. At the regional and international levels, the project sought to serve as a bridge between Türkiye and Europe, contributing to mutual understanding, knowledge exchange and the building of long-term academic partnerships. Ultimately, by implementing the 2023 KA131 project, our ambition was not only to provide participants with transformative personal and professional experiences, but also to increase our institutions’ overall capacity to operate internationally, to enhance the quality and relevance of higher education, and to contribute to the European Commission’s vision of a more inclusive, innovative and interconnected higher education area.
