Objectives

Our project aimed to combat hate speech against ethnic and religious groups observed in widespread national and international media. To achieve this goal, we tried to provide information about the concept of “hate speech”, to bring hate speech to the agenda of society, especially the media and communication community, to facilitate a public discussion, to open the ground for discussions on the ways and methods to combat discriminatory and racist speech, and to encourage the use of a more respectful and conscious language towards human rights and minorities in the media. In this context, the trainings provided with our planned project aimed to; recognize all kinds of hate speech and actions by participants and societies and to take action accordingly, to encourage participants to take a role against all kinds of racism, to inform about media literacy, internet and social media usage rules and rights, and to create formation and awareness to protect individuals and societies against racism, exclusion and hate speech and actions targeting individuals from certain specific countries, religions and nationalities, either face-to-face or on social media. While our project defends human dignity, human rights and equality; We emphasized and discussed the importance of combating Islamophobia and racism, which are the basic elements of all kinds of hate speech and actions. We contributed to the fact that hate speech is the most common tool of Islamophobia, populism, racism and xenophobia, which are on the rise on a global scale, by raising awareness in European countries with our project partners and participants and by developing methods of combating it. Together with the participants, we developed the capacity of our project partners, NGOs, to combat hate speech in many European countries, and ensured that online and offline tools were used effectively in combating it, and that good practices and experiences were shared for the campaign to combat hate speech. The general objectives of our project on local, regional and international platforms are as follows; a) Fight against racism and discrimination b) Support strengthening respect for human rights in the media (Media Literacy) c) Contribute to strengthening the monitoring and anti-discrimination advocacy roles of civil society organizations against discrimination based on race or ethnicity, religion or belief d) Contribute to strengthening respect for minorities and different identities in society e) Ensure that radicalization is addressed in youth work and training f) In terms of professional development of youth workers; to combat hate speech against refugees, Islamophobia, xenophobia, and to develop their competencies in human rights education and youth activism, and to ensure that they operate in this field, along with the recent migration crisis. With our activities aimed at increasing the awareness and mobility of participants in the fight against marginalization and socially including participants, we have emphasized both the fusion of cultures and a more livable world in the future.
