Objectives

"Adaptations and Rehabilitations of Migrants to Social Life" is a youth participation project implemented under the Erasmus+ KA154 action, aiming to address one of the central social dynamics of our time: migration and social cohesion. With increasing global mobility, Türkiye has emerged as a key country in both regional and international migration discussions. The project aimed to provide young people with the capacity to critically and constructively engage in these dynamics by focusing on mutual understanding, informed participation, and inclusive policy thinking. The primary goal of the project was to empower youth through learning and intercultural dialogue, thereby contributing to the development of democratic societies that are both cohesive and socially inclusive. Within this scope, we aimed to raise awareness about the challenges and opportunities that come with migration, encourage civic responsibility, and support participants in developing their capacity to contribute to positive social change. Our intention was to equip youth participants with an understanding of migration as a human, social, and policy-related phenomenon. The project was designed to align with the values of the Erasmus+ Programme, while also being sensitive to the social and institutional context of Türkiye and its partner countries. The project was carried out in two consecutive phases in Istanbul. The first phase took place between 15–21 June 2025, and the second phase followed between 23–29 June 2025. During these two stages, young participants from Türkiye and Bosnia and Herzegovina came together to build shared knowledge and develop practical civic skills. A central aim was to promote youth engagement in discussions surrounding migration, integration, and community cohesion in a manner that is respectful of national frameworks and public sensitivities. In the first phase, participants received foundational training on topics such as international migration trends, the role of civil society, integration, xenophobia, and legal frameworks. These academic inputs were reinforced through non-formal education methods, including film analysis, simulations, group debates, and collaborative policy writing. The second phase focused on strengthening civic impact by advancing participants’ communication abilities and public engagement. Emphasis was placed on creating social media campaigns, refining policy proposals, and engaging directly with local experts and decision-makers during open discussion panels. The sessions encouraged participants to reflect on their learning journey while also giving them platforms to voice their ideas publicly. At its core, the project sought to provide young people with the tools and confidence needed to become constructive contributors to their communities and to European society at large. It respected national sensitivities while promoting the EU’s values of inclusion, active citizenship, and intercultural understanding. The role of institutions, legal norms, and democratic participation was consistently highlighted. Through this initiative, we hoped to contribute to stronger and resilient societies, where youth are engaged, informed, and empowered to support social cohesion and the peaceful coexistence of all members of society.
