Objectives

This project homed in on developing digital capacity as a key competency area for young people. The aim was to boost their participation in education, employment, social life, and decision-making processes, as well as broaden their career choices. We can summarize digital capacity as having the knowledge and understanding of digital concepts, using technology in work or educational contexts, and possessing a digital mindset, regardless of one's profession or studies. The widespread adoption of technological advancements globally, coupled with the necessities that became part of daily life during the pandemic, and innovations in education and employment, have all intensified young people's interest in the digital realm. This has, in turn, created a significant competitive environment. Digitalization inherently demands continuous renewal. When we consider the prevalence of digitalization across various sectors, it becomes clear that young people with socioeconomic disadvantages or limitations require support. The rapid changes in technological innovation also mean that young people need to engage in continuous learning to stay current. As digital competencies have grown, so has the opportunity for global citizenship awareness to develop. UNESCO's Prague Declaration (2003) defines information literacy as: "identifying, locating, evaluating, and systematically handling information to address encountered questions and problems in a healthy manner." The competencies outlined in this definition are not only prerequisites for being part of the information society and participating effectively, but UNESCO also recognizes them as a fundamental human right. The context of digitalization and youth should also integrate into all areas of life where digital innovations can be utilized, encompassing diverse fields such as education, health, culture, participation, and employment. From this perspective, our project aimed to impact education, social life, employment, and participation processes. Moreover, the project aimed to highlight the significant opportunities digital devices offer in supporting sustainability and the green transition. In this regard, young people and youth workers, being among the most dynamic actors in society, need to strengthen their digital skills and gain knowledge about the environmental impact and energy consumption of these devices. Our project also aimed to contribute to energy efficiency, a sustainable environment, and the goals of a Green Europe. In summary, our project focused on three main objectives: • Enhancing the fundamental digital competencies of young people and youth workers from Azerbaijan and Turkey. • Providing a platform for young people from Azerbaijan and Turkiye to share their experiences in digital skills. • Ensuring participants gained the awareness and proficiency to utilize their acquired competencies at a European citizenship level. • Additionally, young people drafted a Policy Paper reflecting on their project experiences and received Youth Pass Certificates documenting their competencies.
