The main objective of the project was to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to understand and address environmental issues, while developing green skills. It aimed to bring together students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds through sports, art, and digital activities that promote sustainability, inclusion, and diversity. Strengthening participants’ digital competences and foreign language skills to enhance international cooperation, and encouraging the exchange of innovative and sustainable teaching methods among teachers, were key goals. The project also sought to increase disadvantaged students’ self-confidence, creativity, and social integration, fostering long-term behavioural change that would lead them to apply sustainable practices in daily life. In doing so, students would be encouraged to become ambassadors for environmental protection, raising awareness within their communities.
This project was initiated to address urgent environmental issues such as climate change, depletion of natural resources, and pollution, while fostering “green skills” among lower secondary school students. Our schools identified the need to raise sustainability awareness, particularly among disadvantaged students, and to integrate it into education through sports, art, and digital activities. Many participants were socially, emotionally, and economically disadvantaged; some came from divorced families or were orphans. Therefore, international cooperation was needed to enhance self-confidence, social integration, and intercultural understanding. Partner schools in Türkiye, Spain, and Romania had experience in environmental education and inclusion, and shared a desire to learn innovative practices from one another. The project addressed the need to develop sustainable practices, improve digital competences, foster creativity, and strengthen cooperation, empathy, and tolerance. As the school’s first EU project, it played a key role in raising awareness among students, teachers, parents, and neighbouring schools through its outputs.
