Objectives

By implementing this project, we aimed to empower young immigrants with the necessary media literacy skills to critically engage with media, create content, and participate in public discourse. We wanted to enhance their employability by providing technical training in media and journalism, giving them the tools to pursue careers in the media sector. The project also aimed to promote social inclusion by fostering intercultural dialogue, challenging stereotypes, and providing a platform for young migrants to share their experiences and perspectives. Ultimately, we sought to increase the representation of immigrant youth in media and improve their capacity to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive media landscape. By achieving these goals, we aimed to support the integration of young migrants into their societies, helping them to become more active, informed, and engaged citizens.

Background

We applied for this project to address the need for media literacy and social inclusion among young migrants, particularly in Austria and Turkey, two countries significantly affected by immigration. Young immigrants often face social exclusion, economic challenges, and limited opportunities, especially in media sectors. The project aimed to empower these youth by enhancing their media skills, enabling them to critically engage with media content and express their views through various media platforms. The project also sought to promote intercultural dialogue, reduce stereotypes, and support young migrants’ integration into society. By providing media education, we aimed to increase employability and promote active participation in society. The project's objectives align with the EU’s priorities for inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities, addressing the challenges young immigrants face in accessing media and information, while also encouraging a more diverse and inclusive media landscape in Europe.
