Objectives

The aim of this project is to develop training content and Virtual Reality (VR/AR) supported digital training materials (DTM) using multidisciplinary design based research methodology to improve the teaching/learning performance of HEVs maintenance and service related topics in VET. Due to the difficult to set up the educational infrastructure for all VET institutions, VR/AR supported DTMs will contribute to equal opportunities and easy accessible in education. In this context, it was aimed to strengthen the existing vocational training infrastructure on the maintenance and service operations of HEVs and EVs, to prepare training course contents, to prepare digital training materials in parallel with these contents, to organize activities that will increase the current capacity and awareness of vocational education in this way, and to increase the cooperation capacity among the international vocational education stakeholders of the project.

Background

Training for hybrid and electric vehicles (HEVs and EV) requires very expensive infrastructure and equipment. The aim of this project is to develop VR/AR supported digital educational materials to improve the ability to use cheap and easily accessible digital technologies and vocational education (VET) without costly investments and to improve the learning and teaching performance of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Electric Vehicles (EVs) subjects. A comprehensive needs analysis was carried out with the contribution of BUU academicians in 2022 and feedback was received in the knowledge and skill headings, especially in the field of troubleshooting. It was clear that it is necessary to meet these needs and develop VR/AR applications that are different from the existing digital HEVs and EVs training materials. Especially the risk of working under high voltage and the lack of infrastructure and experience to gain maintenance service knowledge and skills exist for both students and teachers. For this reason, it is aimed to realize VR/AR applications to meet the needs of people who need training at all levels to be used in diagnosis, maintenance-service training in HEVs and EVs and their components in vocational education.
