The following original project objectives were achieved, and remained consistent throughout the project implementation : -raising awareness about women's rights and contemporary challenges for women -community building for mutual solidarity and support -talent development for women, to provide a key tool to make their voices heard -developing an innovative participatory education methodology, using the arts, to discuss social issues publicly and democratically -Sharing and developing possible solutions from different perspectives, individuals, cultures and organisations -Developing a sustainable local and international trajectory that leads to a new international women's movement, including a congress in 2026
In March 1976, the first International Tribunal on Crimes Against Women was held in Brussels, bringing together 2,000 women from 40 countries to testify about gender-based violence and discrimination. Led by feminists, the tribunal broke societal silence, influenced international legislation, and inspired local initiatives. The women’s project in 2024 has provided an opportunity to launch a three-year participatory project to mark the 50th anniversary of the Tribunal in March 2026 in Brussels. This initiative addresses the need to: Reflect on the progress of women’s rights over the past 50 years; Highlight ongoing global gender inequalities and necessary reforms; Engage a new generation of women in raising awareness, sharing testimonies, artistic expression and advocacy. Women24 participants are empowered, connected and supported to overcome the issues they face, with support from a growing network of experienced organisations. A wider platform of public professionals, academics and politicians are exploring how artistic and personal narratives can address modern gender injustices, creating a powerful space for solidarity, activism, and change.
