The project "Values and Virtues in a Tech-Driven World" aimed to address the increasing influence of social media on teenagers' values and ethical understanding. We sought to investigate how digital platforms shaped pupils’ beliefs and their perceptions of right and wrong. Our objectives focused on promoting common values, fostering digital inclusion, and equipping pupils with the tools to act responsibly in online environments. Through a series of collaborative activities, workshops, and research, we addressed key areas such as media literacy, online safety, and ethical digital behavior. Specifically, we investigated how social media impacted teenagers’ values and beliefs, and how it influenced their moral and ethical perspectives. We developed and implemented initiatives to promote shared values, encouraged empathy and social cohesion, and provided targeted training to support pupils from diverse backgrounds. We educated pupils on digital safety and responsible online behavior, strengthened their critical thinking skills, and improved their ability to detect misinformation. Ultimately, we cultivated greater empathy and ethical awareness among young people, empowering them to become responsible digital citizens.
We applied for this project to address the growing impact of social media on the values and beliefs of teenagers. As technology increasingly shaped interactions and perceptions, we identified a pressing need to promote digital literacy, empathy, and responsible online behavior among young people. The project responded to the lack of awareness and preparedness among pupils, teachers, and parents in dealing with ethical challenges online, such as cyberbullying, misinformation, and data privacy. Survey results across our partner institutions confirmed these concerns, revealing limited knowledge of digital safety and values education among pupils. We were also motivated by findings from European Commission reports which highlighted the urgent need for education on online risks and ethical digital conduct. The project emerged from a shared concern among partner schools and organizations about the erosion of civic values in the digital space. By involving pupils, teachers, NGO staff, parents, and local communities, we developed an inclusive approach to values education. Our goal was to empower young people to think critically, act ethically, and engage respectfully in digital environments.
