Objectives

The aim of this TTIL project is to bring teachers and school policy makers together to give Team teaching a place in the school organisation in a structured way and to use in-classroom coaching to give teachers from the four partner schools the opportunity to apply Team teaching in a structured way to make their lessons as inclusive as possible

Background

Dealing with diversity is a challenge. At the partner schools the intake of pupils is increasingly diverse and there is a need for differentiation. This can no longer be achieved by one teacher in front of the class. Team teaching can provide a good solution. More hands in the classroom is an effective strategy to deal with the increasing diversity in the classroom and to create amore inclusive learning environment. Team teaching has until recently been under-used, under-valued and generally not very well understood. Teachers appear to be increasingly comfortable with collaborating with one another outside of the classroom but are still reluctant to do so inside the classroom. The autonomous nature of teaching still prevails and while classrooms are now occupied by an increasingly diverse student population they are still taught by one classroom teacher at a time. Collaborative practices such as team teaching are the exception rather than the rule says the TALIS 2018 report. All partner schools are already working on some form of team teaching, but not in a structured way.
