We had decided by mutual agreement with our partner from La Réunion to organize a youth exchange centered on health and mainly on the role played by food and the practice of sports activities. This project would bring together 24 young adults aged 18 to 30, 4 facilitators and 1 guide. The stay was due to take place in Belgium (Werbomont) in August 2023. By implementing this project, we wanted to raise collective awareness of the impact of our eating and sports habits. Indeed, a healthy lifestyle seems essential to us for the health and good physical and mental development of everyone. To do this, we have defined the following objectives: 1/ Make participants aware of a healthy lifestyle and acquire benchmarks based on a balanced diet and appropriate physical activity. 2/ Experiment with alternatives to usual consumption practices. 3/ Make people discover our country, its culture, our habits of life, our rhythm and our food. 4/ Experience community life and develop the skills and life skills necessary for the success of a collective project. We also intendend to include awareness-raising activities on environmentally friendly practices and sustainable development in the program. Five concepts directly related to the exploration of objective 3 should be discussed: Promoting reusability - Conserving food - Eating local - Maintaining a vegetable garden - Saving energy. These are relevant themes that we thought were important to experiment for a healthier future. In order to achieve these objectives, we have established a list of activities in accordance with all the defined topics. The activity program revolved mainly around the main objectives, while awareness should be done throughout the project and group life, at the accommodation. We wanted to find different types of activities: informative, sporting, nutritional, and cultural. We were supposed to learn to take care of our diet thanks to the participation of a professional nutritionist. A program of sports activities was established... it was a question of exercising but also of keeping in shape. A hike and a yoga workshop were scheduled. In terms of cultural activities, a visit to the key monuments of Liège and the beautiful regions of our country. For nutritional activities, we would all cook together and establish a suitable meal plan in advance for the entire duration of the stay. Several menus should be defined by the participants around predefined themes. Throughout this project, animations based on non-formal learning methods will be set up. We will encourage debate, awareness, the exchange of points of view via participatory techniques. In addition to the activities directly related to the theme and to sustainable development, it was a question of developing skills of knowing how to be such as living together, on the one hand in the creation of this project where we learn to work in a team, and on the other hand during the stay where we would have to live on a daily basis on a large international scale. It was also an opportunity to prepare for the concept of teamwork, with the distribution of tasks, taking initiatives, respecting commitments to the group, etc. In summary, this project aimed at reviewing one's daily life habits, and learning more about the benefits of sport and a balanced diet on our physical and mental health, in parallel with discoveries related to the wealth of interculturality.
