Objectives

Globally, it is estimated that 14% of 10–19-year-olds experience mental health conditions (WHO), yet these remain largely unrecognized and untreated. On average, 31.4% of Flemish young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are not feeling well emotionally (Vlaamse Jeugdraad), and numbers are rising. The total cost in Europe is estimated at more than 450 billion per year (source: Vlaamse Jeugdraad). Mental health concerns us all and is crucial to the quality of our lives, our relationships with others, and our place in society. Some adolescents are at greater risk of mental health conditions due to their living conditions, stigma, discrimination, exclusion, or lack of access to quality support and services. Look-OUT! is a project for those adolescents 'at risk'. Look-OUT! aims to offer a strengthening and healing experience to adolescents at risk for mental health conditions. Nature and Your Wind Rose share the belief that nature has a strong restoring capacity. We want to offer 12 youngsters an adventurous and wonderful experience from which they can take a second breath, feel connected to themselves and others, and feel strongly alive and connected. By working with different cultures, they learn to understand that they are not alone and that young people all over the world are facing difficulties. This can give them the strength to go on and tackle their problems. The skills learned, whether social, physical, or practical, will be used to help them rediscover the positive side of themselves.
