Objectives

The main objective of the AdventurAction project was to support young athletes, student-athletes and former athletes in developing new skills and facilitating their transition into alternative career pathways, particularly in the field of adventure tourism. To achieve this, the project aimed to enhance participants’ employability by providing accessible and practical training combining theoretical knowledge with real-life experience in outdoor environments. It also sought to strengthen competences in areas such as safety, environmental responsibility, group management and organisation of activities, which are directly relevant to employment and professional practice in this sector. In parallel, the project promoted inclusion by ensuring that opportunities were accessible to individuals with different backgrounds and abilities, while also integrating environmental sustainability as a core element of training and practice. Finally, AdventurAction aimed to create long-lasting, open-access resources, including an online learning platform and training materials, supporting continuous learning, entrepreneurship and professional development beyond the duration of the project.

Background

The AdventurAction project was developed in response to a clear need to support young athletes, student-athletes and former athletes in their transition beyond sport. Many individuals in these groups face challenges in accessing alternative career pathways, as their training schedules often limit opportunities to develop skills relevant to the labour market. At the same time, careers in sport can be uncertain and/or short-lived, making it essential to provide viable professional alternatives. The project also addressed the growing demand for skilled professionals in the adventure tourism sector, particularly in areas such as outdoor activities, environmental sustainability and safety. Despite this demand, there is a lack of structured training opportunities that combine practical skills with real-world experience and accessibility. AdventurAction aimed to bridge this gap by connecting the needs of the sports community with opportunities in adventure tourism, while also promoting inclusion, lifelong learning and sustainable practices.
