The “Be a STEAMer” project aimed to spark interest and passion for STEAM among various target groups (children, young people, teachers and educators). In addition to the natural sciences, there is a focus on artistic and creative development. The aim was to develop a STEAM concept through the exchange of practical ideas between the partner organisations, to provide educators and teachers a guideline on how to integrate STEAM into lessons and various educational activities. Also to increase awareness and develop and produce content for Co-Design Labs. In this context, particular attention was paid to the four core competencies of communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, which enable children and young people to participate in an increasingly digitalized society.
Life in the 21st century is increasingly characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. The rapid pace of change in teaching and learning and the rise of digitalization and mediatization pose growing challenges for professionals, children and young people. Education must necessarily adapt to digital and technological change, and the project “Be a STEAMer“ gives professionals the opportunity to review and revise existing concepts and structures by engaging with STEAM (science, technology , engineering, arts and mathematics). Above all, the focus on learning based on the 4C model (communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking) is seen as a solution to the challenges mentioned above. The “Be a STEAMer” project aimed to promote the implementation of STEAM with a focus on 4C skills in the participating countries and to provide professionals with practical examples and methods for overcoming the current challenges. The long-term goal was to prepare children and young people for the increasing digitalization and medialization of their lives by implementing the STEAM approach in education.
