New learning and teaching methods and approachesQuality and innovation of youth work

Objectives

A lot of youth work practioners in Erasmus+ world do not have any educational degree in this field. Big number of projects, which they attend, does not often mean that the quality of their youth work and their approaches are 100% suitable to the youth of today and their needs. Very often we can see how certain methods and activities from more than 15 years ago are still being repeated in the projects, but which are not effective anymore. Younger youth workers just copy-paste what they see in the projects and use it in their practice without proper analysis. This attitude usually results in poorly managed Erasmus+ projects, which could have been handled better, if real needs and the methodology were assessed beforehand. To minimize the number of such cases happening, we came up with the idea of this project and implemented it in December 2023 in Taevaskoja, Estonia. “YoutHacker’s kit” came with the main aim to provide an interactive inclusive learning platform to all youth work practioners regardless of their education background, where they could dive deeper and discover full concept of non-formal education methodology and understand the play element's role in designing programmes for youth of different ages. The long-term vision was to narrow the gap between the needs of the target groups that youth organisations work with and the quality of the work they actually deliver. The specific objectives were to understand and learn how non-formal education methodology could be in work related to various topics, to reconsider working schedules of Erasmus+ projects built upon old-fashioned and less effective methods, to learn how to facilitate own program and how to design it (considering profiles and backgrounds of target groups) and to provide space to create new educational games with like-minded and passion driven youth workers from different parts of Europe.
