Objectives

The main goal of this project was to integrate the theme of sustainability into the daily practice of our kindergarten classes. We aimed to raise teachers’ awareness of the importance of sustainability in today’s society, so they could pass this understanding on to the children. In this way, even young pupils can begin to develop a sense of shared responsibility for the world they live in and will shape in the future. To support this, teachers needed knowledge, materials, activities, and good practice examples. The mobilities offered within the project served as an inspiring source of ideas and motivation. At the same time, we wanted to promote sustainability through hands-on experiences, such as growing our own vegetables, potatoes, and herbs to be used in preschool meals. Children learn about sustainability in a practical way and bring that knowledge into their community by discussing it with peers and family. This helps build a more conscious and sustainable mindset both in and outside the classroom.

Background

We applied for this project because we recognized the urgent need to raise awareness about responsibility in sustainability. Our goal was to prepare future generations to act in a world-friendly manner and take responsibility for caring for their environment. Through this project, we aimed to create sustainable communities focused on responsible consumption and production. By providing quality education with a strong focus on the future, we laid the foundation for good health and well-being. One of the main challenges we faced was that teachers often struggled to find practical tools and motivation to integrate sustainability education into their daily routines. It was difficult to create new habits when motivation was lacking. This project offered a valuable opportunity to share knowledge and experiences among educators, making it easier to inspire and engage teachers in sustainability education. We believe that the tools and experiences gained through this collaboration brought meaningful changes to our surroundings, teaching methods, and curricula, ultimately fostering a stronger culture of sustainability among both teachers and children.
