Objectives

The project’s objectives were to: Adapt to the needs of the game industry on creating more inclusive, accessible and environmentally friendly games through a series of co-creation learning training workshops between the partners and a library collection of methodologies, guidelines & tools on how to do it. Adapt VET to those labour needs by creating a guideline for training for vocational “upskilling” of game designers teams. It will enable the improvement of skills of VET educators on teaching these topics. Create material (resource library & VET training guidelines) by which the experience of partnership will be disseminated to both VET trainers & game industry. The scope is to develop the skills of more game studios and VET organisations on creating more inclusive, equal, accessible games and games that address climate change, raise awareness on environmental challenges or present the philosophy of circular economy Create the opportunity to empower inclusion and accessibility of vulnerable or marginalised groups in the field of games Update game-based learning pedagogy and didactics towards a more inclusive and environmental friendly future Enable cooperation between educational institutions, NGOs and business

Background

UpGameIn was developed to address the growing need of the game industry, VET trainers and wider target groups to adapt to current social and environmental challenges based on SDGs. The partnership identified a lack of accessible, practical and centralized resources supporting educators and game designers in creating more inclusive, accessible and environmentally responsible games. At the same time, the increasing use of game-based learning highlighted the importance of equipping professionals with new skills aligned with EU priorities. The project recognised the need for VET providers or educators to adapt their training to labor market developments aligning the game sector with SDGs, and to train them so they can transfer the knowledge on accessibility, inclusion, environmental awareness and circular economy to game designers and developers, as well as to the CSO’s ecosystem. In addition, UpGameIn responded to the participating organizations’ needs in strengthening their methodologies and staff competencies into these topics. Through a translational collaboration, it aimed to create a shared resource library with practical tools and practices and develop a VET training guidelines guide to support integration across the EU.
