Objectives

The main objective was to empower women—especially in rural and vulnerable contexts in Tenerife and Patras—through green skills, ecological literacy, and hands-on environmental education. We aimed to improve their access to training and employment in the green economy, particularly in areas such as recycling, sustainability, and eco-entrepreneurship. We also sought to promote gender equality in technical and manual sectors, build inclusive community spaces, and foster intercultural and intergenerational exchange. At a European level, the project aimed to develop a transferable, inclusive model of adult education that addresses environmental and social challenges together. Through cooperation, we wanted to strengthen the capacity of small organizations to work transnationally, co-create tools, and engage local communities—especially women—in the ecological transition while promoting solidarity, participation, creativity, and long-term collaboration among partners.

Background

We applied for this project to respond to the overlapping challenges of climate change, gender inequality, and limited opportunities for women in rural areas, particularly in Tenerife (Spain) and Patras (Greece). We identified a strong need to empower women through green skills and practical environmental education, enabling them to participate actively in the ecological transition, develop entrepreneurial pathways, and improve their employability. The project was designed to address: The lack of access to training and employment in rural and semi-rural areas, particularly for women affected by social control, gender stereotypes, or geographic isolation. The underrepresentation of women in technical and manual fields, such as plastic recycling, STEAM and sustainability. The persistent environmental problem of plastic pollution, by promoting awareness and hands-on solutions like creative upcycling. The need to build inclusive, intercultural and intergenerational community spaces that bridge divides between local populations. Through transnational cooperation, we aimed to share tools, methodologies, and good practices to create a replicable, inclusive model of community-based environmental training tailored to women.
