Objectives

HiCoMa aimed to enhance the capacities of Community Managers in rural and highland areas by developing key competencies and soft skills for managing multi-stakeholder participatory projects. The project created a structured training program and a practical handbook with tools, techniques, and case studies to bridge gaps between academic knowledge and labor market needs. It promoted the recognition of the Community Manager role, fostering civic engagement and participatory processes. A transnational professional network was established to enable knowledge exchange, collaboration, and continuous development. All outputs were designed to be accessible, inclusive, and sustainable, ensuring long-term impact for participants, partner organizations, and rural communities.

Background

The HiCoMa project was launched to address the need for specialized training in participatory processes and community management in rural and highland areas. Professionals such as anthropologists, geographers, and environmental engineers often face gaps between their formal education and the practical skills required for effective project design, negotiation, and multi-stakeholder coordination. Rural areas face unique challenges, including limited resources, fragmented governance, and demographic decline, making skilled Community Managers essential. The project created a comprehensive training program and practical handbook, combining theory, tools, case studies, and networking opportunities. It also fostered cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the creation of a transnational professional network. HiCoMa aimed to enhance employability, promote civic engagement, and support sustainable development in rural communities, ensuring long-term impact for participants, organizations, and local stakeholders.
