The starter of this project was a group of young people from Finland. Some of them had before been in youth exchange, and they contacted the international work coordinator of Ankkapurha Youth Centre with idea to start a youth exchange project. The youngsters made an announcement for partner search, which the coordinator shared through Otlas database. At this point they were looking for a partner group whose young people would be interested to share their own culture and also learn about another country’s habits, taste and cook new foods, make new friends, and plan together the goals and program of the exchange. The partner chosen was a group from village of Terranova Pollino in Italy. The biggest reasons for the choice were that they already had an existing youth group, and their willingness to plan and do the exchange together. Italian food and culture also interested the Finnish youngsters. Originarry there was will to impelement youth exchanges in both countries but the budget was awareded only to exchange week in Filand. Same groups impelemted new project together where they had exchange week in Italy connected to this project. The final goals made by both countries’ young people were: learning about another culture and sharing own culture through games, cultural activities and food. Another side goal was also to get more courage to use English language. The goal of the coordinating organisation was to support internationality and participation of young people, their own agency, and to follow the basic mission of the youth centre: better life for children and youth. The partner organisation in Italy wanted to support the internationality and participation of young people from their own rather remote town, both locally and internationally. This was the first joint project between the organisations, and one more goal for both was to find a new possible project partner and to strengthen their network also for future projects.
