Objectives

Our objectives for this activity were: Creating skilled youth leaders who are capable of making an impact on children and young people locally and regionally To achieve an understanding and tolerance of european and other cultures among participants and teach them to navigate the challenges this presents To increase international awareness in member organisations To see the value of other practices and cultures To prepare trainers to work internationally with groups in youth exchanges of FIMCAP and partners In short, we wanted to create a "Train the trainers" for international events and future Erasmus+ projects, as we are a collection of volunteer youth organisations where our volunteer youth workers are exactly that, volunteers. As a consequence we generally experience a high turnover, in comparison to paid staff and need to train the volunteers to have the skills to be able to run international activities and complete the project cycle of funded activities. The overall objective of this project was to strengthen our youth movements. By providing leadership training during this project, the leaders should become more capable of engaging with children at a higher quality and a heightened understanding of intercultural and European identity. We believe that children and youth become active, engage and take responsibility for their society when they are members of a youth movement or take part in activities made by passionate youth leaders. For these leaders to become competent and create a large impact on their local realities, they need to be inspired, knowledgeable and connected, which we aimed to provide with this training. We wanted to equip the participants with knowledge and enable them to be a trainer, particularly in an international setting. We aim to achieve this by facilitating the sharing of best practices in methods and processes as youth leaders. We especially focused on the processes needed to create an international event. Another important aim was to increase the awareness of intercultural challenges of international training. Thus we wanted to ensure their growth as leaders and enable them to take up their own trainings and activities for an international group. In addition we aimed to increase their understanding of Europe and the cultural differences within Europe. By this we wanted to contribute to the overall cohesiveness of the European identity, as all participants were anchored locally in a youth movement and brought back their understanding of European identity.
