Objectives

The main objective we wanted to achieve by implementing this Erasmus project was to promote inclusion, diversity and civic participation through sport, in particular by drawing on the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We wanted to use sport as a powerful lever to combat the increasing sedentary lifestyle of young people and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. The project also aimed to offer our pupils, from disadvantaged backgrounds, a unique opportunity to open up to Europe, discover other cultures and develop essential social skills such as perseverance, tolerance, rigour and cohesion. Thanks to this partnership with European schools, we have been able to encourage intercultural exchanges and strengthen social ties, while helping to build a more inclusive society. With the Paris 2024 Games as our backdrop, we have sought to pass on shared values and strengthen young people's civic commitment, offering them a framework for education and social emancipation conducive to their personal and civic development.

Background

We applied for this Erasmus project ‘En route to the Olympic and Paralympic Games’ to take part in an initiative that aims to promote social inclusion, openness towards Europe and the personal development of our young people. As our pupils come from relatively disadvantaged backgrounds, we saw this project as a unique opportunity to access educational and sporting opportunities that are rarely available to them. The programme enabled them to take part in sporting activities while discovering new cultures and forging links with young people from other countries. The project met their social and personal development needs, providing a platform for reinforcing essential skills such as perseverance, cohesion and respect. It also enabled them to contribute to the fight against sedentary lifestyles and to promote a more active and healthy lifestyle. Through sport, we have tried to boost their self-esteem and self-confidence, while developing in a caring and inclusive environment. This project has met the need for openness, learning and personal development within a European framework.
