Our goal was to establish a shared culture of democracy. We wanted to leverage everyone's experience and broaden our activities. Our democracy e-book is a dissemination tool that will serve as a support for implementing a new policy in our high schools. We wanted to develop our students into citizens capable of understanding the democratic system in which they operate and encourage them to be socially and civically engaged. Since France has a more limited experience with Erasmus, the goal was to develop multicultural projects in high schools and mobility programs. Working with students of different levels and diverse social backgrounds helped promote respect, equality, and combat discrimination, in line with our objectives. We wanted to move away from the traditional teaching environment. Workshop hours in France (see Digipad), mobility programs, and icebreaker activities contrasted with traditional classes. We created informal learning environments and encouraged peer-to-peer learning through the exchange of knowledge and information. We were able to develop digital skills and make our students more independent.
We wanted to encourage students to be active participants in democracy, involved in their school by building a shared culture through their constitution. The aim was to deepen our practices: Portugal has experience in democratic elections: student associations, the annual Youth Parliament competition; the Greek partner participates in the activities of the European Youth Parliament in Greece and enjoys the status of School Ambassador of the European Parliament; Turkey promotes exchanges by organizing interclass and inter-school debates; and the French experience is based on various mechanisms: class representatives, anti-bullying brigades, and environmental action delegates. However, faced with the growing disinterest and disengagement of young people, we felt it was necessary to encourage them to become more involved. We also wanted to give students from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to undertake mobility and take part in a project. Bringing together students from a vocational high school and students who have recently arrived in France reflects our desire to encourage inclusion and adopt a democratic stance.
