Objectives

The first objective of our project was: to promote sustainable development through exchanges of practices, visits to sheep and chicken farms, maintenance of the city's green spaces and animal welfare. We then thought it would be interesting to think about inclusion with animals and openness to the world through the end-of-cycle Moral and Civic Education program. Finally, work on language learning through livestock-related professions. Our two establishments seemed geographically opposed, but they enriched each other. Our fundamental priority has been: our shared values, our civic engagement and our participation. In addition, our college is isolated, in a white zone, students do not have the opportunity to practice other languages outside of classes, to discover other cultures and to share their knowledge. Openness to the world and to others was quite simply the strong point of this exchange. Another main objective for us was to create a clash of cultures (rural VS urban) between these two colleges that were completely opposed.

Background

We wanted to apply for this project in order to improve the linguistic level of our students, and to offer them cultural exposure. Thanks to this exchange between a capital college and a rural college, the students were able to learn to adapt and grow. Favoring exchanges with host families allowed for total immersion. We applied for this project because we had very specific ideas to meet our objectives. We had linguistic and cultural needs, which we responded to wonderfully, thanks to the group activities of the visits, in each country. The results are more than positive and French families are delighted and better understand the importance of languages and openness to the world. We had ecological needs and we responded to them by visiting natural sites in France and Spain, and by creating an enclosure to accommodate sheep in our college. We also had digital needs and we responded to them by setting up video sessions with foreign correspondents, by equipping a language lab room in our college with audio headsets, webcam and wifi terminals to facilitate future exchanges.
